Our 2010 Youth Project Goals |
||
|
Dear Children’s Worker, This packet includes the theme and missions projects for the 2010 year for the Juniors and Youth of our Yearly Meeting. We invite every church to join us in educating our children about Friends Missions around the world-Evangelical Friends Missions. Our 2010 focus is the mission field in Mexico. I had hoped to have “interviews” with the missionaries to include with the packet, but didn’t get that accomplished. I still plan to get those as soon as the Smucks return to the field and will try to have them on the Friends Women Website so that you can print them from there. Thank you for your patience with my slowness. This is the first year I have actually had to produce the information for the packet and I had some big shoes to fill. I hope that you will find these pages helpful in teaching your children. Please feel free to add anything you have and most importantly encourage your children to pray for our wonderful missionaries and their families. What a surprise it would be for the missionary children if they received letters and cards from children all over the Yearly Meeting! I enclosed maps, color sheets, and a lot of info from Wikipedia about the various areas we are working in. I also encourage you to introduce Mexican customs such as Las Posadas which is celebrated at Christmastime, a party with a pinata which could be used at a Cinco de Mayo celebration. The first Sunday in May is the 3rd, so that would be a great time for that celebration. The Mexican culture is built on community and family with a lot of celebrations. Parts of the country are also buried in dark celebrations that our older children should be made aware of such as Day of the Dead. The internet has a lot of information on these ideas, and I encourage you to use it to your advantage. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me by phone or e-mail. My home phone is 316-941-9509 and e-mail is sylviaharvey@hotmail.com. Blessings, |
