If you are new to Friends Women Fellowship you may want to familiarize yourself with
some terms and acronyms you're likely to hear on a regular basis.

FWF Terms

• Yearbook - This is a handbook for all members of the Friends Women Fellowship. It is published yearly and
  includes information needed for members including: names and phone numbers of FWF Officers and Area Vice
  Presidents, FWF goals, monthly agendas, reading course books and requirements, and addresses for our
  adopted missionaries. In 2007 we changed the yearly issue date of this publication from July to January
  2008. The supplemental months can be downloaded HERE.
• Program Book - The Evangelical Friends International and Women's Missionary Fellowship organizations provide a
  listing of all Friends mission's organizations across the US, including devotionals and the prayer themes for the
  coming year. This book is a valuable tool for those who want to be praying in one accord with others around the world.
  The Program Book cost $5.50 and is issued yearly. You can order from yours from our Yearbook Secretary: Anita

• Quaker Bonnet (QB) - This is the name of the official newsletter of the FWF published every two months. You
  can download the most recent copy HERE or for $5 per year you can receive a copy in the mail. To subscribe mail

Our Organizational Terms

• FWF - Friends Women Fellowship (That's us!) In our early years we were also known at the "Missionary Meeting" and the
  "Women's Society."
• MAYM - Mid-America Yearly Meeting. This is the organization we are under. (MAYM website)
• Yearly Meeting - This is a historical term used by Friends Church for hundreds of years. It is both an event and an
  organization.
  • Yearly Meeting (The Event) - This is an annual meeting for worship and discussion of church affairs and is open to
    all members. Yearly Meeting is an opportunity to take part in the corporate decision making of the Friends Church,
    hear about work done in our name, and enjoy relaxing with Friends from all over Mid-America, and beyond. The
    MAYM no longer refers to this event as "The Yearly Meeting" - instead it is called "The Ministry Conference." It is
    held in July in Wichita every year.
  • Yearly Meeting (The Organization) - Most of the time when you hear someone referring to the "Yearly Meeting"
    they are using this term in reference to the MAYM Headquarters, i.e.: "I'll call the Yearly Meeting and ask them
    about that." This term is hundreds of years old and refers to the "home office" of our organization.
  • HOW DID THIS TERM COME ABOUT? Once a year (hence the term "Yearly Meeting") leaders and members would
    gather at a central location in their part of the country to discuss church business. Eventually a certain city
    became designated as the official meeting place for that area. Leaders and offices were established. People
    began referring to these offices as "the Yearly Meeting" because that's where the annual meetings took place
    and where the leaders were based. Gradually these meetings evolved into six autonomous Yearly Meetings
    across the US that make up the North American branch of the Evangelical Friends Church International. The
    Mid-America Yearly Meeting includes churches from Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Colorado and
    Arkansas. The Rocky Mountain Yearly Meeting includes churches from Colorado, Nevada and Arizona.

• EFCER - Evangelical Friends Church Eastern Region. They encompass Friends Churches across the eastern US. (

• EFI - Evangelical Friends International. It is also referred to as the EFI/NA. (North America) It is an oversight branch

• EFM - Evangelical Friends Mission. This is one of the main organizations that supports our missionaries. (EFM website)
• NYMF - Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends. This encompasses the Friends Churches of Idaho, Oregon, and
  Washington. (NYMF website)
• RMYM - Rocky Mountain Yearly Meeting (This is our sister organization based in Colorado who we occasionally do
  projects with.) They encompass Friends Churches from Colorado, Nevada and Arizona. (RYYM website)
• WMF-EFI/NA - Women's Missionary Fellowship-Evangelical Friends International-North America. (How's that for
  a mouthful?) The current president of the WMF-EFI-NA is Grace Ferguson who has national oversight over all
  Friends Women Fellowships.
